Service Projects

The Forge exists thanks to the generous contributions of many kind people. Your group is invited to participate in the ongoing camp development during your stay.

Hiking Trails

Many hiking trails have already been established and need to be maintained. Additional trails also need to be developed.

Fire Prevention

When it comes to wild fires, the question is when, not if. Fires on the forest floor can actually help clear undergrowth, providing more space for new trees to grow. However, when trees have low branches, the flames climb up into the canopy and cause significant damage, leaving trees dead and blackened. Removing these lower branches is a painstaking process, but one day, it could save the forest.

Burning Slash Piles

Every summer, many trees are removed, and many more trimmed. The wood is piled around the property and burned once the county burn ban has lifted.

Firewood

The campfire is an essential element of camping. Help improve future campers’ fire-building experience by splitting firewood and delivering it to campsites.

Refinishing Wood

Unfinished wood deteriorates quickly out in the elements. Handcarts, picnic tables, Adirondack shelters, rinse decks, and more need to be oiled yearly so they will still be around for the next generation of campers.

Obstacle Course

Additional stations will be added to the obstacle course. See the Activities page for more information about the existing course.

Picnic Tables

Many wooden picnic tables have already been built. Additional tables need to be assembled.
