| CHURCH OF SWEDEN MISSION |
The four Projects supported by the Church of Sweden Mission (CSM) were further streamlined during the reporting year. Some of the achievements made by these projects are given below:
o 270 working children were identified; 12 children who were previously working were counselled along with their family members. They were enabled to undergo lessons in a regular school to get accustomed to the school environment, pick up academic skills and prepare themselves for mainstream education. o Two street children who would have otherwise fallen in to the company of anti social elements were rescued and provided with residential care and assistance for education.
o Training in job skills was provided to 11 boys and girls to enhance their skills for placements in dignified employment with decent working conditions. Nine of them have been placed in better job environments. o 15 non-formal educational centres have been organised to provide inputs in education for working children. o Monthly gatherings were looked forward to by working children with great enthusiasm and every gathering has an average attendance of about 200 working children. o Ten street children have been contacted and three of them have been re-united with their families after counselling. o 65 trainees in two batches have completed a tailoring course and have been placed in a Textile unit; 23 boys after the completion of carpentry training have been placed in a saw mill and carpentry workshop; 28 children who underwent printing and book binding training have been placed in a printing press; 120 women are undergoing a tailoring training programme. o In the Residential Care Programme, 29 children are attending 10+ studies while 3 are undergoing training in various capacities, while another 3 are involved in non-formal technical / vocational (job oriented) courses.
